Mini Operations Guide (Step by Step)

  • Check if radio is available
  • Turn on Power Supply
  • Connect Radio
  • If SSB, connect Mumble
  • If digital, DISconnect Mumble, connect VNC and WSJTX
  • OPERATE
  • If  digital, exit WSJTX and VNC
  • Sign out of and exit radio
  • Turn off Power Supply

Power on using WebSwitch

1 TS 480 RigPi Power Supply OFF Switch ON
2 TS 480 SSB Power Supply OFF Switch ON
3 N/C OFF Switch ON
4 N/C OFF Switch ON
5 N/C OFF Switch OFF
6 N/C OFF Switch ON
7 N/CQotom Computer – Leave ON ON Switch OFF Cycle
8 RigPi MFJ-1234 – Leave ON ON Switch OFF Cycle

 

  • Go to KH7U Menu – http://kh7u.aditl.com/menu
  • Click on Webswitch status and check on switch status.
    • If the TS 480 Power Switch is on then someone is using the station.
    • Click on Webswitch Last User to see last user
  • Return to Menu and click on WebswitchLogin.
  • Switch on TS 480Power Supply 
    •  This powers on the rig and attaches the antenna
  • The RigPi switch should be on. DO NOT power it off.

RigPi  operation

For SSB

  • On Menu click on KH7U RigPi ( or link to kh7u.dynu.net:7488)
  • Sign in using name and password (See Huna)
  • The RigPi Tuner screen will appear
  • DO NOT press Power On (3rd column)
  • Below Frequency Display Box Click on Connect radio
    • The red triangle to the left of Connect should turn green when connected.
    • If necessary, click on Disconnect and Connect again.
  • On your local computer, double-click on Mumble icon.
  • On top server line, enter kh7u.dynu.net:64638
  • Mumble scree should display connected
  • Return to RigPi tuner screen and operate
    • Adjust Mic / Speaker gain as needed  (see Volume Control below)
    • Select Band – (green buttons)
    • Select Frequency – Tuning knob / + / – buttons
    • Press PTT – right side – to transmit

 For WSJT-X

Note:  Only one program can use the radio connection at a time. If you get Hamlib errors in WSJT-X it’s likely that someone left RigPi SSB still connected to the radio. You need to log into RigPi and DISCONNECT the radio, then run WSJT-X again. Also remember to kill Mumble if it is running to release the audio (soundcard) so WSJT-X can use it for incoming/outgoing signals.  See below for procedure If you need to disconnect the radio

  • Double-click on WSJT-X icon – the dark blue globe Icon on desktop
  • If WSJT-X is not connected to the radio, go to RigPi  tuner and click on Disconnect
  • Select Band (Down Arrow)
  • Set DB Graph to  approx. -40 DB (see Capture in  Volume Control below)
  • Adjust Power as needed (Right side Slider)

If you need to disconnect the radio

  • On Menu click on KH7U RigPi ( or link to kh7u.dynu.net:7488)
  • Sign in using name and password (See Huna)
  • The RigPi Tuner screen will appear
    • If necessary, click on Disconnect
  • DO NOT run Mumble
  • If Mumble is running -(Lips Icon on toolbar top right) – kill it

When pau:

  • Exit WSJT-X
  • On the Webswitch, power down switch 1.

Volume Control

  • Right-click on Speaker Icon (upper right)
  • Click on USB Device Settings for the sub-menu

For Audio out of RigPi computer to the Radio Mic/Data 

  • Select Playback tab
  • Mouse control up/down to adjust gain

For Audio from the Radio Speaker to the RigPi computer

  • Select Capture tab
  • Mouse control up/down to adjust gain
